Early Life and Education

Barack Obama was born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father, Barack Obama Sr., was a Kenyan economist, and his mother, Ann Dunham, was a white American anthropologist. Obama's parents met while they were both students at the University of Hawaii. They divorced when Obama was young, and he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Lolo Soetoro.

Obama attended Punahou School, a private preparatory school in Honolulu. He was a good student and an active participant in extracurricular activities. After graduating from high school, Obama attended Occidental College in Los Angeles for two years. He then transferred to Columbia University in New York City, where he earned a degree in political science.

Political Career

After graduating from Columbia University, Obama worked as a community organizer in Chicago. He helped to establish the Developing Communities Project, a non-profit organization that worked to improve the lives of low-income residents. In 1996, Obama was elected to the Illinois State Senate. He served in the Illinois Senate for eight years, and he was a vocal advocate for education reform and healthcare access.

In 2004, Obama was elected to the United States Senate. He quickly became a rising star in the Democratic Party. In 2008, Obama was elected President of the United States. He was the first African American to be elected President.

Presidency

Obama's presidency was marked by a number of significant accomplishments. He signed the Affordable Care Act into law, which expanded health insurance coverage to millions of Americans. He also oversaw the end of the Iraq War and the drawdown of troops in Afghanistan. Obama also appointed two Supreme Court justices, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.

Obama's presidency was also marked by a number of challenges. He faced criticism for his handling of the economy, the Syrian civil war, and the rise of ISIS. However, Obama left office with high approval ratings, and he is widely considered to be one of the most successful presidents in recent history.
