EE hits milestone with over 1,000 small cells deployed

Network operator's 5G rollout begins in Croydon

EE says the new cells will improve network coverage in busy areas

EE has deployed its first 5G small cells, marking a new milestone for the network operator.

The first 5G sites have been installed in Croydon, London, EE announced today.

The move comes as EE continues to expand its 4G and 5G networks across the UK.

In the last year, EE has expanded its 4G small cell estate to towns and cities including Cardiff, Dundee, Luton, Norwich, and Stoke-on-Trent.

EE has now deployed over 1,000 small cells across the UK, marking 400 new deployments over the last 12 months.

The new 5G cells in Croydon are configured with licensed 1800MHz spectrum for 4G and 35GHz for 5G, EE said.

Greg McCall, Chief Networks Officer at BT, said: "This is a significant milestone for EE and a testament to our commitment to providing our customers with the best possible network experience.

"Small cells are an important part of our strategy to improve coverage and capacity in busy areas, and we're delighted to be rolling them out in Croydon."

EE's 5G network is currently available in 50 towns and cities across the UK, with plans to expand to 160 locations by the end of the year.

The network operator is also working on developing a new generation of small cells that will be even more compact and efficient.

These new cells will be able to be deployed in even more locations, including indoors and on street furniture.

EE's investment in small cells is part of its wider strategy to improve its network and provide customers with the best possible experience.
