Angelman Syndrome A Genetic Overview

Angelman Syndrome: A Genetic Overview

Understanding the UBE3A Gene

Angelman syndrome is known to be caused by genetic changes, the most common of these changes being the UBE3A gene. This gene is found on the 15th chromosome. When this gene is mutated, it can disrupt the normal development of Angelman syndrome.

Additional Genetic Factors

While mutations in the UBE3A gene are the most frequent cause, it's possible for other problems in this gene to lead to Angelman syndrome. These situations are related to genetic alterations related to the UBE3A gene, but not specifically to mutations in the gene.
