The United States have been drawn into Group C for the men's basketball tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics along with South Sudan and Serbia. The Americans will tip off their Olympic campaign against Serbia on Sunday, July 28th at 11:15 am Eastern Time.
Team USA is the defending Olympic champion, having won the gold medal in Rio in 2016 and Tokyo in 2021. The Americans will be looking to extend their streak of gold medals to five in a row.
Serbia is a rising star in international basketball, having won the silver medal at the 2016 Olympics and the bronze medal at the 2020 Olympics. The Serbians will be a tough test for Team USA, but the Americans will be favored to win the matchup.
The other team in Group C is South Sudan, which is making its Olympic debut. South Sudan is a relatively new country, having gained independence from Sudan in 2011. The South Sudanese basketball team is ranked 72nd in the world, but they will be looking to make a statement at the Olympics.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will be seeded 1-8 based on their records in the group stage. The quarterfinals will be played on August 6th and 7th, with the semifinals being played on August 8th and 9th. The gold medal game will be played on August 10th.
